Ensworth Belize Day 4

Since today is the weekend, instead of going to St. Matthew's, we rode the bus to the Xunantunich Mayan ruins. We got to learn about the various buildings and how they made up the Mayan city.

We got to stand on top of the original palace and had a great view of the tallest ruins such as the main temple. There were many steps to climb but the views were definitely worth it!

When climbing the main temple, we saw replicas of ancient carvings on the side of the ruins. There were many symbols, each with a different meaning. Some of them represented gods, and some depended on what side of the building they were on.

Then, we went inside the temple and up a staircase to the very top. Mayan architecture involved thin archways to hold up a stone roof, which would make the interior rooms long and thin.

One of the spectacular views involved a village in Guatemala that we could see from the top. We learned that this is where Juan is from. This was only one of the great views that we could see from the top.

Finally, after exploring the Mayan ruins, we drove to lunch at Benny's Kitchen! We had great food and tasty chocolate milkshakes for dessert. The restaurant was designed to have a playing area for kids. We got to play volleyball and had lots of fun! Afterwards, we went back to the Tropical Education Center and had free time for the rest of the day. We were so glad to see the breathtaking views of the Mayan ruins. We look forward to the big day we have planned tomorrow!
